This Weeks question
I love bass fishing, but am a little new to the area, I am wondering what type of techniques one might use from shore, I live in the seattle area and don't really no where to turn, any suggestions,

Brian's Answer As an avid bank fisherman myself i understand that things look different fishing away from the bank! However you should approach bank fishing the same as fishing from a boat. First be stealthy, do your best not to make a bunch of noise when moving up to your next spot. Second choose baits that fit that body of water, forage, and weather conditions. Find a couple technics you are confident in and fine tune them. Third look for cover or structure, bass will relate to them whether you are on a boat or shore. Weedlines, stickup, laydowns, or tullies always present a good ambush area, so those that are visible should be targeted. Make sure that you do your best to parallel the bank when fishing from shore in a fan cast motion, example start @ 9 o'clock and work your way to 3 o'clock. This time of year bass are fattening up for the winter ahead so baits that mimic the shad or crawfish in your lake/ponds should produce a great outing.

Eddie's Answer Since the weather is starting to cool down considerably, the fish are starting to feed up for the winter, so I would start with paying attention to what conditions you have at the time you want to fish. Keep in mind that you need to match whatever forage is in the body of water you plan to fish. If the conditions present you with a breeze, with ripple on the water, then go with a spinner bait, early, something in a shad pattern, at the same time I would have a crank bait at the ready for a reaction bite, in the fall in most places the crayfish have gone through a color change, which should have them at brown/orange, so a jig with a good crawdad trailer may pay off. During the warmer parts of the day expect fish to be staged at points where they can access an easy/quick meal. If you are fishing from the shore, be aware of weed lines, they can pay off as well at this time of year. I hope that this will help you along, “Tight Lines”
